突然、急に、サドンリー、一人暮らしの私のベッドの上にトイプードルがやって来た。
彼(彼女かもしれないけど)はグレーのふわふわの毛に覆われてつぶらな瞳で私を見つめた。グレーのトイプードルはいつだって少し不安げで優しくしてあげたくなってしまう。
で、でも、そんな目で見られても、私はあなたを飼えない・・・と、彼の背後にもう一匹のトイプードルが現れた。
最初のトイプードルと同じようにグレーの毛とつぶらな瞳を持っていた。
え、いつの間に？・・・と、二匹目のトイプードルの背後に三匹目のトイプードルが、その背後にもう一匹のトイプードルが・・・気づけば私のベッドの上は私が座っている場所以外すべてトイプードルで埋め尽くされていた。
私はいつも考え事をする時、本棚の本の背表紙を眺める。そこに書いてある言葉で何かひらめいた、という記憶はないのだが、私の通って来た思考や物語の軌跡のようなものを眺めると不思議と落ち着いた。
私は助けを求めるような気持ちで本棚の本の背表紙・・・そこには本ではなくトイプードルが詰まっていた。部屋を見渡すと机の上も窓枠も床の上もあらゆる場所にトイプードルがびっしり詰まっていた。
牧羊犬に追い込まれて小屋に戻ろうとする羊の群れのようにトイプードルたちは渋滞していた。
みんなグレーのふわふわでくるくるの毛に覆われ、その縮れた毛の奥につぶらな瞳があった。
私はあきらめてトイプードルの隙間に体を埋めて、寝返りも打たずに眠った。
Suddenly.
A toy poodle appeared on my bed where I live alone.
He (or she) was covered in gray fluffy fur and stared at me with lovely eyes. Gray poodles are always a little anxious and I want to be gentle with them.
B, but I can’t keep you even if you look at me like that… And another toy poodle appeared behind him.
Like the first toy poodle, he had gray fur and lovely eyes.
What? When did this happen? …the third toy poodle was behind the second toy poodle, another toy poodle was behind the third toy poodle…My bed was covered with toy poodles, except for where I was sitting.
I always look at the spine of books on my bookshelf when I’m thinking. I don’t remember the words on there inspiring me, but I feel strangely calm when I look at the traces of thoughts and stories that I’ve passed through.
I tried to look at the spine of books on my bookshelf asking for help…they weren’t books, they were toy poodles. I looked around the room and saw toy poodles all over the place, on the desk, on the window sill, on the floor.
They were like a flock of sheep trying to get back into the shed after being driven back by a sheepdog. There were more toy poodles than I could step on.
They were all covered with fluffy gray fur and had lovely eyes behind their frizzy fur.
I gave up, buried my body in the space between the toy poodles, and slept without turning over.
